The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption

The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption - Jim Gorant I got this book for my birthday this past December from my bestie. It's one of those books that she'd knew I'd love and at the same time one of those books I myself would never have picked up because I'd be too afraid. Afraid I'd ball like a baby, which I did.

I couldn't read the first ten pages without putting the book down and grabbing my own little fur-baby and squeezing her close. Many a breaks had to be made for some dog-loving interactions.

This book focuses on the dogs themselves, as individuals which I love. They go over the background of the dog-fighting case and mention Michael Vick only when necessary. And when the book does, they do it in an unbiased manner, stating only the facts and what evidence in the courtroom allowed. I really respect the author for doing that as this book isn't about who was in the wrong or who did what, it's about how the dogs survived from the incidents they were put in.

At times reading was confusing as the dogs were routed and then re-routed to different shelters and foster homes. They were named and then re-named. Even so, the dogs rose above and many turned into loving family dogs.
